We decided to make a pit stop in West Yellowstone before we entered the park for work. We needed to make sure all our electronics are updated, write some more blog posts, make sure we have all the fresh vegetables for the next few weeks and finish up e-training for our jobs. The west gate for Yellowstone opened on June 1. We got to West Yellowstone on June 5. We have never witnesses this town so empty. I took this picture looking at the intersection of Madison and Canyon. Our previous experience is that you cannot find a parking space in this area and that the sidewalks are wall to wall with people.
We had already decided before we got here that would eat at local restaurants. Once we enter the park, we are stuck with my cooking. We stopped at a bakery for breakfast. Breakfast croissants that were very satisfying. Over the course of four days we got frozen yogurt and pizza from our favorite place last summer, Pete’s Rocky Mountain Pizza. For dinner we stopped at a barbecue place. I had been smelling the meat cooking all day. You can order meat by the pound. I got a 1/4 lb of brisket, 3 pork ribs and Donna got 1/4 lb smoked turkey. It was so good. We got some of the BBQ sauce but only tasted it. The sauce was good but the meat was superior so that adding extra sauce just seemed wrong. The brisket is some of the best brisket I have ever tasted. I usually get brisket at any new place because if the brisket is good then usually everything else if good. The Firehole Bar-B-Que Co at 120 Firehole Dr. is our new jam. We did not discover this little gem last summer. That has now be rectified. We will be back!
We have experienced all four seasons of weather in our time here. It was 80 degrees when we got her but within 24 hours it started raining and snowing. It felt good to be welcomed back. We put on electric blanket back on the bed; pulled out our winter slippers; and got the heater out. We are ready for anything the weather throws at us.
